Announcing Idiom

James says it better than I can, as usual. Today marks the launch of our new publishing venture, Idiom.

Its mission statement:

Idiom is an online publication of urban artistic practice. By allowing emerging artists, writers and arts professionals to report on, review, and otherwise cover overlooked or under-thought aspects of the larger creative community, Idiom offers a local, engaged counterpoint to the prevailing discourse of contemporary art.

One of the reasons I post so rarely these days is that I have been working on improvements to ArtCat — both the calendar and hosting applications. While you are out tonight at openings in Chelsea or elsewhere, you can check out our site on your phone using our new mobile site.

Franklin Evans, Extraction from C/S/SS: A Year of Magical Thinking, 2009
Digital print on Arches cold pressed paper with hand additions in watercolor and ink
22 × 30 inches
Edition of 30 unique, signed works

Franklin Evans has some new work from one of my favorite artist-run publishing studios, Element Editions. Each one has hand painting by the artist, so that it is unique.

Franklin also has a solo show opening next week at Sue Scott on the Lower East Side that looks great.
